Summer Ready: Keeping Your Pet Safe, Cool, and Prepared This Season

June is here, and that means sunshine, weekend adventures, and more time outside with your furry best friend. But with rising temps and summer activities come new challenges for pet parents.

At Pawsitive Care Veterinary Clinic, we want to help you keep your pet safe, comfortable, and ready for anything. From grooming tips to microchipping, here’s what to know before the real heat hits.

Heat Happens Fast

Pets can overheat way quicker than we do. Dogs and cats don’t sweat like humans, so high temps can lead to heatstroke in minutes—especially in breeds with short snouts, like pugs or bulldogs.

Watch for signs like excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, or lethargy. If it’s too hot for you, it’s definitely too hot for them.

Safe Outdoor Time

  • Walk early or late in the day when it’s cooler.

  • Always bring water for both you and your pet.

  • Test the pavement with your hand—if it’s too hot for your palm, it’s too hot for their paws.

Grooming for Summer Comfort

A good grooming routine doesn’t just keep your pet looking cute—it keeps them comfortable too. For thick-coated breeds, a professional de-shedding or light trim can help prevent matting and overheating.

Ask us about summer grooming recommendations, especially if your pet is prone to tangles or has sensitive skin.

Don’t Forget the Microchip

Summer is peak season for lost pets. With doors opening and outdoor adventures happening, a microchip could be the only way your pet finds their way back home.

This June, we're offering 50% off microchip registration to help make sure your contact info is up to date and your pet is protected.

Quick Prep Checklist

  • Refill flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives

  • Keep ID tags and microchip info current

  • Pack a travel kit with water, bowls, first-aid, and any meds

  • Never leave your pet in a parked car—ever

Let’s Make This Summer a Safe One

Your pet deserves to enjoy the sunshine just as much as you do. A little prep now means fewer worries later. Whether it's trimming their coat, updating their microchip, or just checking in on seasonal health needs, we're here to help.

Book a summer wellness visit at Pawsitive Care Veterinary Clinic and let’s make sure your pet is ready for all the sunny adventures ahead!
